Important distinction: Healthcare AI that wins hackathons is NOT diagnostic AI. It’s workflow AI. Judges know that diagnostic tools need years of clinical trials. What wins is AI that makes healthcare workers’ lives easier TODAY.

What Healthcare AI Judges Look For

  • Does NOT replace doctors – assists them, reduces admin burden
  • Works in Indian healthcare context – government hospitals, PHCs, limited internet
  • Handles regional languages – patients speak Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, not English
  • Privacy-first – no patient data leaks, DPDP Act compliant
  • Low-cost deployment – can’t require expensive hardware

What’s Out of Scope (Don’t Build This)

  • Anything that diagnoses diseases
  • Treatment recommendation engines
  • Clinical decision support
  • Medical image interpretation (without proper training data + validation)

These need regulatory approval. At a hackathon, stick to operational/workflow problems.
